The UK Government has introduced a requirement for voters to show photo ID when voting at a polling station at all future elections. This new requirement will apply for the first time in England at the local elections on Thursday 4 May 2023.
It is likely that the majority of voters will already have one of the many forms of eligible identification, the most common being a UK Passport, a UK driving license, an older person’s bus pass or a blue badge. Details of all types of eligible identification can be found Avon Dassett Parish Council’s website at:
https://www.electoralcommission.org.uk/i-am-a/voter
It is important that everyone who is entitled to vote is aware of the new identification requirements and Avon Dassett Parish Council will provide assistance to any resident needing help to either understand the new requirements or to complete and submit the required application forms where photo ID is not already held.
A Parish Councillor will be at the village coffee morning on 1st February 2023 from 11.30am; at the Yew Tree Warm Hub every Friday between 12 noon and 12.30 pm until the end of February or you can contact Trevor Gill, Chair, Avon Dassett Parish Council by email to adpc.chair@icloud.com or by phone on: 07775 762927.
It is worthy of note that voters with a postal vote are not impacted by the new identification requirements.
